Site Information: Fort Drum
Fort Drum is located in Northern New York State, just west of the Adirondack Park. It occupies 107,265 acres of land, with 410.4 miles of roads, 283 miles of communications lines, and 490,333.1 linear feet of fencing. The army has had a base on the site since 1908, when it was originally known as Pine Camp. It is home to the 10th Mountain Division, based there since its creation in 1985. The army estimates that the economic imact of the base on the community was $652,902,907 in fiscal year 2004, and $7,045,702,754 from 1988 to the present. In addition, it is the largest employer in Northern New York, with 14,055 soldiers and 3,050 civilians employed.
